Our Story

We first met in the spring of 2007 at DramaTech Theater at the Georgia Institute of Technology while working on the set for a production of "An Enemy of the People." After spending a summer trying to get AJ to build a spiral staircase for one of Morgan’s set designs, we began dating on November 11, 2007. Our relationship is built on the team work we learned from the theater: Morgan the designer and AJ the constructor, a balance of beauty and practicality. After four years of a long distance relationship, we moved to Ames, Iowa in the summer of 2011 where Morgan started her PhD. On December 29, 2012 after dating just over five years, AJ proposed in Tennessee at a scenic mountain overlook while the snow fell gently around us.

The Engagement Story

After celebrating Christmas of 2012 apart with our respective families, we got in the car and started driving from Atlanta, GA back home to Ames, IA. As we crossed over into Tennessee, AJ asked if we could stop at a mountain overlook. Morgan said “Sure thing, I know of one just up ahead”, knowing it may be over a year before we may get to see mountains again. We drove along a little ways until arriving at the overlook in Monteagle, TN. We got out of the car and, with the snow falling softly around us, walked over to the lookout area. Looking out over the valley, AJ asked "Would you like your Christmas present now? You may have it only under one condition … that you never take it off." Of course Morgan said yes!
